Aug 27

“Magic Hour”

The small time just before sunset when light changes dramatically and very quickly and is very beautiful. Also, the time when witches cast spells.

Aug 26

“Hot Brick”

A completely charged walkie talkie. Please don’t bring any actual bricks to the set or try to microwave one while we are filming, Tim.

Aug 25

“Video Village”

A place where all of the monitors for the directors and other department heads can view live what they’re filming. Please don’t pillage here.

Aug 24

“Green Screen”

A screen you use behind you so you can replace it with something that’s not there like mountains, the sky, or sense of hope.

AUGUST 10 word of the day

“Stand In”

An “Actor“ that is used to stand in front of camera to help with the lighting and camera department on how to light the real star’s face. Sometimes shows have permanent “Stand Ins“ just to constantly remind them of what they could’ve been.

AUGUST 11 word of the day

“Extra“

Also known as Background or BG or Atmosphere. Whatever they’re called, it won’t matter. No one knows who they are.

AUGUST 12 word of the day

“ACTRESS”

A lady of the screen. Same thing as an “Actor“ just complains more.

AUGUST 20 word of the day

“ACTOR”

A person responsible for selling a movie / tv show. Sometimes they are very trained in theatre, sometimes they a**holes.

AUGUST 13 word of the day

“Prop”

A prop is anything the actor touches. Like, a cigarette, a jar of peanut butter, or your heart. (I still love you, Jennifer.)

AUGUST 19 word of the day

“Prop Master”

The person in charge of all the “Props”. Definitely not the master of slave props. Or the master of anything. Unless you’re a prop master assistant, then yes, you’re a slave.

AUGUST 18 word of the day

“Unit Production Manager”

The Boss. Someone who signs your check. Don’t piss them off! Unless they fire you from the show because of your “irrational” spending on cue tips. Then F*** ‘em.

AUGUST 17 word of the day

“Make Up Artist”

Someone who gets paid a lot of money to make people look like people on camera. Usually helps cover up blemishes. Not in charge of making actors feel happy. No one can do that.

AUGUST 16 word of the day

“Production Assistant”

Usually referred to as a PA. They do anything to help with production, from picking up coffee, running errands, and figuring out how to sabotage other PAs.

AUGUST 15 word of the day

“TV Director“

A person who is in charge of the set, at least when the writers aren’t around. Usually friendly unless you go around calling him a Wannabe Film Director.

AUGUST 14 word of the day

“Set Decorator”

A person in charge of the furniture and art involved in the set. In charge of “Set Dressers“. Friendly unless they don’t eat any food. Make sure they are fed at least twice a day, or they will start planning your death.

AUGUST 13 word of the day

“Film Director“

A person in charge of the set. Usually found on set directing actors, working with the assistant director, and throwing coolers at insubordinate PAs.

AUGUST 12 word of the day

“Key Grip”

A person in charge of the grips. Usually involved in moving equipment that carries lights. Please do not feed them.

AUGUST 12 word of the day

“Department Head”

Someone in charge of everyone in their department. “Key Grip“, “Set Decorator”, “Unit Production Manager“, “Production Designer”, “Director of Photography”, “Hair and Makeup Supervisor“. Friendly unless provoked.

AUGUST 11 word of the day

“Assistant Director”

A person that runs the set. Usually friendly unless their name is Tim. Tim is a dick.

AUGUST 10 word of the day

“Director Of Photography”

Usually called a DP. In charge of the look and feel of the lighting of the show / movie. Usually very technical. (Some would say too technical and much too nerdy to invite to parties, but I would never say that.) Usually very cliquey with the camera department as no one else can understand what they’re saying.

AUGUST 21 word of the day

“Production Designer”

Someone in charge of the look of the show / film. Including colors of the sets, the actual layout of the sets / sizes. Works closely with wardrobe and other departments to make sure there is a overall look in accordance with his / her style. Definitely don’t design “products” and definitely doesn’t care if you’re friends with the director and therefore believe you should have their job.

aug 22

Animal Wrangler

Sort of like a “Talent Wrangler” / “Assistant Director” but the animals are much less needy.

AUG 23

“Call Sheet”

A sheet that carries all the names of people who will b on the set that day, including the talent, all the crew and your crush. Don’t try and call her on there, she won’t answer because her phone number is in the form of a time. 12AM just isn’t enough digits for a man to be happy.
